Preterm Lambs Tracheal Duct Collapsibility: a Finite Element Study

چکیده

INTRODUCTION Knowledge of the mechanical behavior of immature tracheae is crucial in order to understand the effects exerted on central airways by ventilatory treatments, particularly of tidal liquid ventilation (TLV) [1]. Although the adult respiratory system has been deeply studied with both experimental and computational approaches, the infant and fetal lungs have never been examined so accurately, in spite of their peculiar characteristics and pathologies. The aim of this study is the investigation of the mechanical behavior of preterm lamb tracheae, in terms of compliance, and particularly collapsibility, at pressure conditions which may occur during TLV. Both computational methods and experimental tests were used to this purpose.

Finite Element Method Application in Analyzing Magnetic Fields of High Current Bus Duct

The goal of paper is to present the magnetic field calculations in high current bus ducts. Finiteelement method is used to do this. Bus ducts under study have figure such as circle area. Thecalculations will be using mathematical relations, meshed geometric shape and analyzing them.Geometric mean will help us to determine the value of magnetic field. COMSOL software is appliedfor simulation stu...

Effects of nasal continuous positive-airway pressure on nutritive swallowing in lambs.

Current knowledge suggests that, to be successful, oral feeding in preterm infants should be initiated as soon as possible, often at an age where immature respiration still requires ventilatory support in the form of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP). While some neonatologist teams claim great success with initiation of oral feeding in immature infants with nCPAP, others strictl...

Is intrathoracic tracheal collapsibility correlated to clinical phenotypes and sex in patients with COPD?

A substantial proportion of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) develops various degree of intrathoracic tracheal collapsibility. We studied whether the magnitude of intrathoracic tracheal collapsibility could be different across clinical phenotypes and sex in COPD. Intrathoracic tracheal collapsibility measured at paired inspiratory-expiratory low dose computed tomograph...

Inhibitors of inflammation and endogenous surfactant pool size as modulators of lung injury with initiation of ventilation in preterm sheep

BACKGROUND Increased pro-inflammatory cytokines in tracheal aspirates correlate with the development of BPD in preterm infants. Ventilation of preterm lambs increases pro-inflammatory cytokines and causes lung inflammation. OBJECTIVE We tested the hypothesis that selective inhibitors of pro-inflammatory signaling would decrease lung inflammation induced by ventilation in preterm newborn lambs...
